The town of Dexter celebrates it’s 200th year, June 20-23.

BACK IN TIME: Our beloved down town Dexter in the 1930’s.

Dating all the way back to 1824, Samuel W. Dexter purchased a large tract of land and created the village, which is now known as Dexter. Our town is home to around 4,500 residents as of 2020 and is only growing from there. This summer from June 20th to 23rd, the city of Dexter’s history will be celebrated within the community, followed by many events. All of the events will be held in town at various places. You can test your knowledge of Dexter in a game of Jeopardy, look at old and new cars at the car show, attend a tea party and fashion show at Gordon Hall, eat ice cream, and participate in karaoke. Many people were involved in planning this celebration, including students from Dexter High School, Senior Dana Kulas, and Anna Kovarik. Kulas says, “I go to the meetings and I’m a student representative for the committee, so I bring in a young person’s point of view. I also run the Facebook page, website, Google Calendar, and Instagram. I make the posts and help design the website.” Many of these events were planned by student representatives on the bicentennial board, who put in lots of time and effort to create a memorable event.
