A dive into the thoughts over Doctor Strange Multiverse of Madness

WRITTEN BY EMMA BISHOP

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is the sequel to the original Doctor Strange. There was a 6-year gap between these movies, but was it worth the wait?

Multiverse of Madness was released in May of 2022, it follows the characters, Steven Strange and America Chavez, into the multiverse of the MCU. America is a mysterious character who can travel through multiverses.

She meets Strange accidentally after a monster attacked her when she was trying to find the Book of Vishanti (a book with powers to counteract the Darkhold, a book of dark magic).

Meanwhile, Wanda Maximoff is trying to get her children, named Billy and Tommy, back after she lost them in WandaVision. Strange and America travel throughout the multiverse and land on Earth-838 trying to get away from Wanda, who is trying to kill America so she can steal America’s powers to get her children back.

Strange and America encounter different versions of Strange and realize in different universes people can be different from who they know in their own universe. At this time, Wanda is in possession of the Darkhold. She uses it to dream-walk in the alternate universe Earth-838 to interact with her kids. But while Wanda is dream-walking someone tries to destroy the Darkhold, so Wanda is no longer able to dream-walk without the book.

She later threatens Wong to tell her how to continue to dream-walk. Eventually, Wong reveals that the book is a copy of the original and he takes her to Mount Wundagore where the Darkhold was originally written. Wanda uses the power of the mountains to travel back to Earth-838, this is where she finds Strange and America with the Book of Vishanti.

I watched this movie in June, around a month after the released. I went into watching it thinking Wanda was going to team up with Strange and America because she was portrayed in a positive light in all the other movies I’ve seen her in.

At the start of the movie I immediately knew I was wrong. In this movie, Wanda is the villain. I wasn’t expecting this, and Elizabeth Olsen did an amazing job. You could tell she spent time trying to perfect this.

One thing I didn’t like about this movie was that it didn’t tie into the original film. I think the reason the directors did this was so it could fit into what’s happening in the MCU currently.

The new MCU is different than what the old MCU was with new characters, and the storyline is in an entirely different direction than phase 3.

This movie was good, but it could have been better if it tied more into the original movie.
