Motorhead – Ace of Spades
Towards the end of the ‘70’s people started hearing whispers of a band called Motorhead, and their front man, Lemmy Kilmister. When the band released the album Ace of Spades in 1980, everyone knew who Motorhead was, and what they were about- not caring about anything, drinking and partying, and doing whatever they wanted. All of these band traits are heard in just about every song. Each track has the speed rock from the drums, every knob on Lemmy’s bass rig is turned to ten, and the fast distorted guitar.
The first track on the Album Ace of Spades needs no introduction, everyone knows the classic bass riff and instantly knows the song. Motorhead has a unique way of writing their songs. The track “Love Me Like a Reptile” is a love song, but it has the Lemmy lyrics – “Thunder lizard, stony eye, you got me hypnotized, hot tongue breaks in and out and I can’t believe my eyes” – that turns it from a love song to an aggressive rock track that bikers all around the world love.
Lemmy died in December of 2015, but his spirit did not. Through this remarkable album that influenced so many people will never be forgotten.
