Whether it’ s driving in the car, getting hyped for a game, or working on homework, students said the situation 100% dictates the music they listen to

Does your music change from day to day tasks? Ours sure does. When we doing varies activities such as driving in the car, working out, or cleaning the house, we implement different songs based on the specific task. After dozens of hallway interviews, 100% of interviewed students
claimed the genre of music they listen to varies based on certain activities. Students added their music taste also tends to change based on who they are surrounded by.

Junior Kendall Cabana agrees that she has specific music preferences for different places and duties. “When I’m driving to school, I think it’s too early to listen to upbeat music. so I like to listen to chill music, such as Noah Kahan,” Cabana said. “But that changes based on who’s with
me. When I drive my friends to school on Tuesday mornings for student council, I like to listen to popular hype music that everyone knows and can sing along with to wake us up.”

As Cabana’s day switches from school to basketball, she tends to change her music preference.

“When going to the courts, Travis Scott never fails to get me hyped for practice!” she said.

Senior Alyson Phillips also agrees. “My favorite song to listen to in the car is “Into you” by Ariana Grande,” she said. “Also, I love Michael Jackson and Tyler the Creator.” These upbeat singers get herpumped and ready for the day. As the day drifts to an end, Phillips tends to slip into a mellow mood. “If it’s a late-night drive home, I always put on chill country such as Zach Bryan and Morgan Wallen. This is usually when I’m by myself. It keeps me in a calm mood after being drained from the day. I tend to listen to different types of music with my siblings and parents. The aux varies based on who’s in the car and what everyone wants or is appropriate to listen to.”

Junior Jack Meeker loves to listen to Drake in the car. “I usually listen to Drake on the way to basketball or the gym to get me in the right mindset” Meeker said. When he’s with his little sister, he loves to jam out to Taylor Swift. “My sister is too young to listen to Drake, so I switch it up and play Taylor Swift because she’s a huge Swiftie.”

Sophomore Maddie Krueger really enjoys listening to Zach Bryan. “He calms my anxiety when I’m driving and has super catchy lyrics, but my mom would disagree,” she said. “My mom’s super into the Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys, so I tend to throw that on to calm her anxiety about me being a new driver!”

Krueger also changes her music taste based on various activities. “When I’m doing different activities like cleaning my room, I will play more upbeat music, such as Pitbull, to motivate me to get chores
done.”

Principal Nowak’s Tunes

It’s clear students change their music preferences frequently, but adults do too. Principal Melanie Nowak is a music lover and she explains the variety of music she listen too. “When I’m cleaning my house I always put on Louie Armstong and Ella Fitzgerald,” she said. “They have always reminded me of my grandparent.”

She also listens to a variety of tunes while driving to attend different events. “It depends where I’m going and who is in the car with me,” Nowak said. “I started to introduce my children to Dr. Dre. I’m trying to expose them to different types of music. My son loves country music, and he’s also a huge fan of the song “Wiggle” by Snoop Dogg.”
