Dreads win last game 4-3 in an OT stunner
By Michael Waltz
The Dexter hockey team came into their last regular season game hot off two wins against both Fenton and longtime rival Chelsea. The team traveled to Jackson to take on Lumen Christi for their second showdown of the year.
The game got off to a rough start with Lumen striking first and gaining a two-goal lead before the halfway point of the first period. But with seconds left in the first, junior Kyle Knapp took it down the ice and netted a backhand shot to cut the lead down to one. Early in the second period the Titans scored taking their two-goal lead back, making the score 3-1.
Senior Trevor Lotz then found the back of the net, putting the Dreads back within one at the end of the second.
The game continued its fast pace in the third with both teams getting plenty of chances. It wasn’t until junior Logan Eggleston scored to tie the game at 3-3 with 10 minutes left in the game.
Headed into overtime, junior Trevor Eisele scored the winning goal just a few minutes in.
“We didn’t give up and we cellied hard in OT,” junior Logan Eggleston said.
The Dreads finished the regular season with a 16-9 record and head into the playoffs with their first game Tuesday against the Pinckney Pirates at 7:30 p.m. the Arctic Coliseum in Chelsea.
