With two transfers and a change at quarterback, the Dreads resemble a team Dexter hasn’t seen in a decade

e Dreads pride themselves on their defense, and they have a new middle linebacker to anchor down that defense. Junior Jordan Watson, a transfer student from Huron, is an amazing defensive talent. He was added to a group of strong and experienced linebackers and fit right in. He is effective against the run and is second on the team with nine tackles for a loss. Watson also leads the Dreads in tackles through the first five games. Editor’s note: Watson dislocated his elbow in the sixth game and is out for the season.
The talent of Colin Parachek has been apparent to anyone who has watched him play since youth football. The sophomore QB has a cannon for an arm and shows it often on the field. He was moved up to varsity on the first day of summer camp and had to fight for the starting QB position throughout two-a-days. Parachek won the position battle before the Chelsea game and has started every game since. Teammates rave that the sophomore plays like a much more experienced player, but Paracheck didn’t even turn 15 until Week 3. Through the first six games he is 89-for-153 for 1,441 yards, 17 touchdowns, and only 5 interceptions.
Antwan Ficklen isn’t new to varsity football, as he was a two-year varsity starter at Adrian High School, but the junior receiver has added another dynamic playmaker to the Dreadnaughts offense. Ficklen, while also being a deep threat, is lethal on screen passes and jet sweeps as he can make any defender miss one on one. On special teams, Ficklen is the lead return man for Dexter. His blazing speed has given the Dreads great starting field position after nearly every kickoff and punt. Through six games, Ficklen has 33 receptions for 593 yards and 7 touchdowns. He has also rushed for 71 yards and 2 scores and has one punt return touchdown.
