Senior Ryan Sanders scores twice as Dexter improves to 11-0-1 on the season

Dexter had complete control of its game against Pinckney from the kickoff.
Just a few minutes into Tuesday’s game, intense pressure on the Pinckney defense lead to a corner kick for Dreads’ senior Ryan Sanders. This ultimately lead to the first goal of the game by senior Cole Harrell knocking it in after a scramble out front.
Just a couple minutes later at the 34-minute mark in the first half, Sanders headed in another goal making it 2-0 dreads. Dexter sustained the intense pressure throughout the first half, but couldn’t add to the lead. The Dreads had multiple missed shots and other scoring opportunities the kept the Pirates within two.
Finally, at around the five-minute mark, Pinckney got its first shot on net. For the last four minutes of the first half, the Pirates started to pick up the energy, but couldn’t seem to get anything to connect.
With 30 seconds left in the first, Harrell had a nice move deking through the opponent’s legs but his shot sailed high and the Dreads led 2-0 at halftime.
As the second half started, the Dreadnaughts picked up right where they left off by ramping up the energy. Only a few minutes go by until a pass from Dexter senior Jaylen Bonilla across the field to Sanders is shot and goes in off the post to make it 3-0 Dexter.
With 33 minutes left in the second, Pinckney’s goalie made a great save to keep the game within three.
Keeping the shots coming, Dexter senior Jordan Laski makes a diving header from a corner kick making the score 4-0 with 26:36 left in the second half. Dexter senior Daniel Higgins showing great determination shooting one from the corner and going in to get his own rebound but stopped both times by the Pinckney goaltender.
“I didn’t think I could reach it with my foot, so I dove with my head and placed it to the side of the goalie,” Laski said. “I kind of knew I was going to make it because Jaylen played a good ball.”
The Pinckney goaltender continued to make excellent saves, using a diving stop to prevent a goal from Dexter junior Alex Doletzky with 13:41 left in the game. Dexter continually kept possession for nearly all of the final 13 minutes to finish off a 4-0 victory.
“Excellence” is how junior Noah Rogge chose to describe his teams preformance. Rogge explained that ball possession was a key part to their victory over Pinckney. The win improves Dexter’s impressive record to 11-0-1 on the season.
