The Dexter boys basketball team lost to the Ypsilanti Golden Grizzlies 65-50 on Tuesday night. The win bumps Ypsilanti’s record to 16-1 while Dexter falls to 11-6. The only loss the Grizzlies have is a loss to Dexter earlier this season.

Tuesday’s game wasn’t just any regular season game; it was for the SEC Championship. This was Dexter’s first chance at a league title since 2003.

In the first half of the game, Dexter kept it close with its lock-down defense and excellent 3-point shooting by Drew Bishop who had almost all of Dexter’s 29 points at halftime. But just like Leonardo Dicaprio in the Revenant, the Dread’s were mauled by the Grizzlies in the third quarter as Ypsilanti went on a 23-9 run to take a comfortable lead.

Dexter was not able to make a comeback as the Grizzlies’ suffocating defense led to costly turnovers in the fourth. Ypsilanti won its third SEC crown in five years.
